New London City flights from Plymouth

Posted on 09 March 2009 by Airline News

Air Southwest have announced a new UK domestic route which starts operating in around 6 weeks time.

The new route will connect Plymouth and Newquay to London City (LCY). The UK airline already flies from Plymouth and Newquay to London Gatwick and believes the new flights, which start on 20th April, will complement the existing capital flights. Air Southwest who welcomed their new MD Peter Davies to Plymouth at the start of February are hoping to win the “train versus plane” battle on the route. Talking to Airline News today Peter Davies said:

Day-return rail travel to the capital is costly and time-consuming. With our new London City service our customers will save hours of travelling time, with great value fares. It’s also ideal for a short-break in London, and will help to increase inbound tourism to both Devon and Cornwall.

Departure Times:

From Newquay 07:45 and 16:50 (operates via Plymouth)

From Plymouth 08:20 and 17:25

From London City 09:55 and 19:05

The launch price for the new flights is £29 each way inclusive with business plus fares at £99 each way.

New route announced

Air Southwest ( the small UK airline not the huge US one, no offence ) is launching a new service from Plymouth to Guernsey ( GCI ) with the first flights a couple of months away.

The flights, which will cost from £39 one-way including all taxes and charges and a 20 kilo baggage allowance, are on sale now. They will start from April 8 and run every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Mike Coombes, deputy chief executive at Air Southwest, said: ” Guernsey is the perfect destination for a short-break or family holiday and for those wanting to experience an island paradise without high Euro-zone exchange rates, there’s never been a better time to travel.

Air Southwest flights from Plymouth to Guernsey“This new service increases the number of destinations on offer from Plymouth City Airport to 11 and we hope that it will make a significant contribution to the island’s economy.

“We’re also aware of a number of students from Guernsey studying at the University of Plymouth, so we hope that we will become their airline of choice.”

Chris Elliott, Guernsey’s Director of Marketing and Tourism said:

“We’re delighted that this new route is opening up. It will make it easy and inexpensive for people from Plymouth and the surrounding area to visit Guernsey, and enjoy the beauty and character of our unique island. Guernsey offers outstanding value for money because unlike European destinations, a pound is a pound here, not just a fraction of a euro.”

Air Southwest is no stranger to the Channel Islands having operated regular flights from Plymouth to Jersey for the last five years.
