BA to start up new transatlantic airline

Posted on 09 January 2008 by Airline News

It hasn’t exactly been a big secret but today BA officially announced plans for it’s new venture aimed at taking advantage of EU-US openskies.

One surprise was that the new airline will not be an all business setup a la silverjet or bankrupt maxjet. The 757 aircraft will have 24 flat bed seats in business class, 28 premium economy seats and 30 economy seats. Would be nice to be buy an economy seat and get upgraded.

Codenamed Lauren, the new airline will actually be called Openskies which Willie Walsh says is “celebrating the first major step in 60 years towards a liberalised US/EU aviation market which means we can fly between any US and EU destination”

In a falling market today BA shares were down 2.5% while Silverjet was also down 2%
