Freedom Direct Holidays Fails

Posted on 16 April 2009 by Airline News

Freedom Direct Holidays has failed to renew it’s ATOL licence and has ceased trading effective immediately.

Freedom Direct LTD also traded under the following brands :

Freedomdirect.co.uk
Freedom-direct.co.uk
Snowdeals.co.uk
Holidaysyoulike.co.uk / Holidaysyoulike.com

The Newcastle based Limited company was named by the CAA at the end of March as one of a large number of companies that had failed to or chosen not to renew their ATOL licences.

Freedom Direct’s ATOL number is 9740. All passengers that have booked direct with Freedom Direct or one of their other brands should contact the CAA ATOL claims department. Freedom Direct was also a full member of ABTA (number F5038) and as such, also sold package holidays from other ATOL bonded tour operators. Customers holding bookings by Freedom Direct but with any ATOL number other 9740 should contact ABTA for advice.

I think we need a shake up of the whole ATOL / ABTA setup. Make something that is easier for customers to understand.

Apparently Hays Travel has rescued the business – taken over all bookings and even re-employed staff. Good news.
