Petition against APD increases

Posted on 09 July 2009 by Airline News

A petition against the large increase in Air Passenger Duty planned for later this year has been set up.

The increase in APD will hit longer routes the most, potentially the destinations that will be most at risk by capacity cuts are those that rely on tourism for a large part of their national economy Dominican Republic for example. There is also a risk that passengers will fly longhaul from other European countries such as Holland, France and Germany which put UK aviation jobs and airline companies at a major risk. By taxing flights so high the UK government will effectively be encouraging people to fly more sectors in this way, than direct from the UK.
